DLF Youth is expanding our efforts to equip the next generation of leaders! Our Power Mentoring program will connect high school students from Dallas and Richardson ISD with engaged volunteers for the academic school year. 

Mentors will help students succeed by preparing them for graduation and the various paths they can take after attaining their high school diploma.

Why Mentor?

Research from The National Mentoring Partnership shows that at-risk youth who have a mentor are:

55% more likely to enroll in college

78% more likely to volunteer regularly in their communities

130% more likely to hold leadership position in a club, school council, sports team or other group.

Mentoring relationships offer a shared opportunity for growth and learning. A good mentor is empathetic, respects young people, is solution oriented, and has great listening skills.

Your Commitment

Power Mentors are required to commit to the mentoring relationship for 9 months. During this time frame, we encourage weekly one hour meetings that will take place on-site at a Dallas or Richardson ISD high school. 

Our Process

All Power Mentors are trained by Dallas Leadership Foundation staff and remain supported throughout the mentoring relationship. 

Step 1: Complete an online application and background check (must be 19 years of age or older)

Step 2: Interview with DLF Staff 

Step 3: Receive mentor training (2 hours online and 4 hours in person)

Step 4: Be matched with your mentee

Step 5: Develop your mentor relationship with support from DLF staff
