What We Do

Power Mentoring

During the mentoring sessions, mentors meet with mentees to listen and encourage students to talk about issues they are currently facing. Mentors will also meet the mentees after or during school as needed.

Power Lunch

Power Lunch engages students in current and relevant issues. Each month a different topic is introduced and discussed for at least three to four weeks. We love each student as we listen to his or her valued opinion and lead them to make wise choices about their life and education. We present customized curriculum in order to decrease classroom disturbances due to behavior, while encouraging students to use their leadership ability in a positive way.

DLF's Youth Development program walks alongside students in their schools, at lunch, in their neighborhoods, and throughout the summer — present in the communities where young people are growing up and building the relationships and skills that shape who they are becoming. Young people in our program are seen, challenged, and invested in as the leaders they already are.

Our programming meets young people at every stage of their development — equipping them with leadership skills, emotional intelligence, and the confidence to navigate the real challenges they face: peer pressure, relationships, academic pressure, and finding their voice in spaces that weren't always built for them. Through coaching, mentorship, and intentional curriculum, students develop the character and vision to define their own futures.

Through consistent presence and long-term investment, students grow into leaders who strengthen the communities they call home — carrying forward what was poured into them.
